Good Samaritan Hospital Unveils New 10-Story Patient Care Tower
June 1, 2007
Good Samaritan Hospital officially dedicated its new 10-story patient care tower Thursday, May 31, during a morning ceremony on the campus of the hospital.
The centerpiece of the hospital's modernization and expansion project, it provides Good Samaritan with 168,000 square feet of new patient care areas.
Additionally, the expansion will add patient beds, increase the number of surgical suites by twenty-two percent, provide state-of-the-art technology and provide over 230 new jobs to the hospital. Directly connected to the existing Dixmyth tower, the new tower offers greater access to premier services for which Good Samaritan has achieved an outstanding reputation.
“To state it simply, today we witness the strength of the past and the promise of the future,” said John Prout, Chief Executive Officer of Good Samaritan Hospital and President and Chief Executive Officer of TriHealth. “By increasing our capacity to care, we have increased the community’s trust that we will be there for them when they need us. Our community knows, appreciates and expects premier care from Good Samaritan Hospital. Today we continue to deliver on our 155-year promise known as Good Samaritan Hospital.”
The $122 million dollar cost of the project has not cost taxpayers a single penny. The cost was financed through a combination of internally generated funds and outside borrowing thanks to the Sisters of Charity participation in Catholic Health Initiatives.
Planning for the new tower began in 2001 and an official announcement was made in January, 2004 that the Good Samaritan Hospital campus would be expanded and updated for the benefit of current and future generations. In addition to the tower, the project provides the hospital with another 145,000 square feet of renovated areas.
“Over the last 155 years, the caring staff of Good Samaritan Hospital has felt privileged to meet the health care needs of Cincinnatians,” said David P. Dornheggen, Chief Operating Officer for Good Samaritan Hospital. “However, with that privilege comes a commitment to maintaining and improving our compassionate care for both the community of today and the community of tomorrow. Today we witness the culmination of that commitment.”
