Good Samaritan Hospital – #1 for Babies and Still Growing
August 27, 2007
Good Samaritan Hospital has achieved the number one ranking in Ohio for delivering babies in 2006, according to the Ohio Department of Health’s Vital Statistics division. The total number of live births at Good Samaritan last year was 7,010. The hospital is well-equipped to hold the title in 2007 as it unveiled 12 additional state-of-the-art labor and delivery suites and an additional c-section suite in its new patient tower on Sunday, August 26.
“Over the years, Good Samaritan Hospital has invested in developing a comprehensive birthing center for expectant mothers,” said David Dornheggen, vice president and chief operating officer of Good Samaritan. “Our number one ranking validates that investment by proving that moms-to-be are drawn to the facility where their newborns will receive the best care no matter what happens.”
Good Samaritan’s investment in mothers and babies addresses all “just in case” scenarios with regard to deliveries, such as:
- a nationally recognized Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)
- an inpatient special care obstetrics unit
- the Seton Center for high-risk pregnancies
- an affiliation with the collaborative Fetal Care Center
Recent facility enhancements include opening of the new labor and delivery unit and current renovation and expansion of the NICU. The hospital also invests in a Perinatal Research Center, which studies environmental, genetic and lifestyle risk factors in order to reduce and potentially prevent birth defects, complications and premature births locally and beyond. New technologies, such as the HUGS computerized tracking system for infant safety and a new state-of-the art medical record system designed specifically for obstetrics, are currently in use, as well. Good Samaritan’s obstetrics residency program, which has had a 100 percent Boards pass rate for the past 15 years, helps ensure that women’s care will continue to improve into the future. The highly esteemed residency program also allows Good Samaritan to provide an extra layer of care most hospitals do not have.
Good Samaritan’s commitment to maternity resources has enabled the hospital to recruit a large base of well-respected obstetrics and gynecology physicians. Together with a team of TriHealth nurse midwives, Good Samaritan offers patients plenty of care choices. The hospital’s Faculty Medical Center also provides health care services to uninsured and underinsured patients.
“As a physician, I feel very comfortable bringing my patients to Good Samaritan Hospital, not only because of the technology and high-risk capabilities, but also because of the family-friendly delivery process and caring staff,” said Edouard Feghali, M.D.
