New Tower Dedicated; Floors to Open in July and August
Good Samaritan Hospital officially dedicated its new 10-story patient care tower on Thursday, May 31, 2007. The tower was just one facet of the hospital's $122 modernization and expansion project which has provided Good Samaritan with 168,000 new square feet of patient care areas plus another 145,000 square feet of renovated areas. Additionally, the expansion has added patient beds, increased the number of surgical suites by twenty-two percent, provided state-of-the-art technology and will provide more than 230 new jobs to the hospital. Directly connected to the current tower, the new expansion offers greater access to premier services for which Good Samaritan has achieved an outstanding reputation.
Patient-care floors within the tower will open in July and August. Get details about when each floor will open.
Dimyth Avenue Project Complete
In September, the City of Cincinnati completed its overhaul of Dixmyth Ave. Once considered one of the most dangerous thoroughfares in Greater Cincinnati, the road has been moved more than 300 feet north of its former location. The newfound spaciousness between the hospital and the road not only provides an entirely different front-door experience for patients and visitors to Good Samaritan Hospital, but also creates room for 200 new parking spaces. To increase safety for vehicles and pedestrians, the road also has been widened from two to three lanes (northbound and southbound lanes along with a center turn lane), and is lined by well-lit sidewalks.
Main Street Religious Artwork Unveiled
A series of inspiring religious-themed artwork appear on Main Street, a 400-foot, curving corridor that joins the Clifton and Dixmyth sides of the hospital. Art and architecture work together to convey peace, warmth, welcome, and the healing work of the Good Samaritan.
- Striking floor-to-ceiling murals vividly depict Psalm verses of faith, peace and hope.
- Compelling black and white photographs depict the beauty and dignity of nature and its healing influence.
- Photos are interspersed with reliefs of natural elements sculpted into the walls.
- A 5-foot tall bronze relief of Jesus greets passersby who may draw comfort and inspiration from touching his outstretched hands.
- Additional religious-themed artwork will be placed in other public spaces.
