Cardiology Assoc. of Cincinnati Joins TriHealth Heart Institute
Oct. 3, 2011
The alignment between Cardiology Associates of Cincinnati and TriHealth, which includes Bethesda and Good Samaritan hospitals, comes naturally. A 45-year relationship between the physicians and TriHealth hospitals led to countless achievements which ultimately resulted in earning Thomson Reuters’s prestigious recognition of 100 Top Hospitals for cardiovascular care.
“Cardiology Associates of Cincinnati sought a partner committed to leading-edge heart care that would sustain our practice’s history of many Cincinnati ‘firsts,’ such as performing coronary interventions, electrophysiological studies and procedures; implanting pacemakers and defibrillators; and pioneering the transradial approach for diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease,” said Freidoon Ghazi, MD, Cardiology Associates president.
“We were impressed with TriHealth’s clinical standards and its shared decision-making philosophy, particularly in this era of healthcare reform that encourages collaborative excellence between physicians and hospitals,” Dr. Ghazi said.
“This innovative collaboration between TriHealth and Cardiology Associates of Cincinnati will help to optimize integration of hospitals, physicians and community resources,” said John Prout, TriHealth president and chief executive officer. “This collaboration will positively impact the quality of patient-centered heart care and ultimately the heart-health status of our community at large,” said Prout.
Physicians will have a significant voice in patient-care decisions, such as quality standards, streamlined care processes, and strategic business planning, Prout said. Physicians and staff will become employees of TriHealth.
Cardiology Associates’ specialty team includes M. Cardiology Associates will continue to see patients in its offices in Clifton, Anderson, Montgomery, Western Hills, Mt. Airy, Montfort Heights, Batavia and Sardinia.
TriHealth Heart Institute hospitals, including Bethesda North Hospital in Montgomery and Good Samaritan Hospital in Clifton, are responsible for nearly 700 open heart surgeries annually and nearly 7,100 cardiac catheterizations and angioplasties annually.
TriHealth Heart Institute is one of two specialty institutes announced by TriHealth in mid-May. TriHealth Cancer Institute also was established. These new institutes leverage TriHealth’s regional leadership in aligning physicians – employed and independent, primary care and specialists – to develop a shared focus on excellence for each patient and the community as whole. The new institutes wield the power of the full TriHealth system which has been named among the country’s Top 100 Most Integrated Health Networks for 13 years.
