TriHealth Named 2012 Green Business Award Finalist
TriHealth has been named a finalist for the 2012 Green Business Award by the Cincinnati Business Courier. TriHealth is one of 19 area finalists.

TriHealth Green Committee co-chairs Don Mullins and Sr. Agnes Coveney added, "TriHealth's green efforts help our patients; we are physicians, hospitals and communities working together to help people live better," The TriHealth Green Committee has the responsibility to initiate, delegate, monitor, report and communicate efforts, practices, targets and outcomes for the TriHealth system.

In 2010, Good Samaritan Hospital and Bethesda North Hospital recycled or reused approximately 947 tons of material which accounted for 21% of the total waste stream. Good Samaritan has an Energy Star rating of 76, with no increase in electrical usage on a weather-normalized basis including a 20% increase in square footage. Good Samaritan also reduced water usage by 4.4 million gallons in 2010.
By revising the control strategies used on air handling units, Bethesda North was able to reduce electric consumption by 5% on a weather-normalized basis. More than 87 tons of plastic was diverted from the landfill by implementing a reusable sharps container program at both hospitals.
In total, the two hospitals had a savings and cost avoidance over $215,000 in 2010 through recycling and reuse of cardboard, paper, plastic, oil, printer cartridges, and many other items.
