General Surgery Conferences

Quality Improvement Conference - (Morbidity and Mortality)

A weekly conference attended by surgical faculty and residents with presentations by residents detailing cases of interest, which are followed by a group discussion.

Grand Rounds

A weekly conference outlining new innovations in the field of surgery, often presented by prominent visiting surgeons considered leaders in their respective fields.

Vascular Conference - (Morbidity and Mortality)

A bimonthly conference attended by residents, vascular surgery fellows, and attending vascular surgery faculty whereby cases of interest are presented by the fellows and discussed.

Tumor Board

A weekly multidisciplinary conference attended by surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, and oncologists whereby oncologic cases are presented for group discussion.

Chief Conference

A bimonthly conference with topics of interest chosen by chief residents and presented for junior surgical residents to work through in a systematic manner.

Case Discussion Conference

A bimonthly conference proctored by different faculty members where a case of interest is presented and worked through in a level appropriate manner.

Schwartz Conference

A weekly conference and discussion with assigned reading from the Schwartz Principles of Surgery Text, with supplementation from other references. The conference is ran by chief surgical residents in a “chalk and talk” format, and proctored by faculty members with expertise in the topic being presented.

Journal Club

A bimonthly dinner meeting with journal articles of interest presented by residents for in depth discussion.
