Jonathan Borden, MD

Jonathan Borden, MD, is a highly experienced brain and spine surgeon with over 20 years in practice. Driven by developing and applying the latest technologies and treatments in the field, he finds himself at the cutting edge of neurosurgery research and clinical studies. Dr. Borden has served as primary investigator for several national FDA-IDE studies, including growth factors and stem cell therapies for disc regeneration, as well as new minimally invasive and motion-preserving surgeries

Dr. Borden provides minimally invasive treatments for brain, cranial nerve, and spinal conditions, and has developed new surgical treatments for brain and spinal cord conditions. His practice focus includes:

  • Minimally invasive spine surgery
  • Motion-preserving spine surgery
  • Minimally invasive treatments for brain tumors, including microsurgery, radiosurgery for pituitary tumors, meningiomas and other types of brain tumors
  • Vascular malformations of the brain and spine (e.g., dural AV fistulas)
  • Trigeminal neuralgia

Dr. Borden works collaboratively with a cross-functional team of expert physicians, nurses, and clinicians to ensure patients receive the most comprehensive and highest quality care available.

Set Shahbabian MD

Set Shahbabian, MD, has come a long way since his childhood days of “operating” on his stuffed animals. Upon completing his education in his native Iran, including two years as a military physician, he came to Cincinnati to train under Frank Mayfield, MD. He was the last chief resident to serve under Dr. Mayfield. Over the past four decades, Dr. Shahbabian has established a career of excellence as a leading neurosurgeon in Cincinnati.

Dr. Shahbabian treats adult patients for a wide spectrum of neurologic diseases and disorders, with special interest in addressing spinal issues. His practice focus includes:

  • Brain and spinal tumor surgery
  • Herniated disc repair (cervical, lumbar, thoracic)
  • Hydrocephalus
  • Spinal compression fractures
  • Strokes
  • Vascular anomalies

As a member of the TriHealth Orthopedic & Sports Institute, Dr. Shahbabian is excited for the opportunity to continue to grow TriHealth’s neurosurgery program in the region. Outside of the operating room, he is a master stone carver and also enjoys painting and coin collecting.
