About Me

Conditions I specialize in
  • Electrophysiology
  • Cardiology

Prior to coming to TriHealth, Dr. Muhammad Athar served as a staff cardiologist and as an electrophysiologist. He has been recognized for clinical excellence and introducing new techniques. Prior to completing two fellowships at the University of Cincinnati, he was on faculty in the Division of Hospital Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He loves the intellectual stimulation that cardiology, and specifically electrophysiology, provides. In his new role, he is excited about exploring new procedures and treatments as the field continues to develop.

Dr. Athar diagnoses and treats adults with arrhythmia and other forms of irregular heartbeats. He also implants devices like pacemakers and defibrillators and performs ablations and laser lead extractions. As part of a patient-centered practice, he believes in helping patients make informed choices. While he will make a clear recommendation, he likes to provide alternatives for his patients to consider. He encourages everyone to seek medical advice when something does not feel right, emphasizing that early treatment is important.

Practice Focus • Arrhythmia treatment • Ablations • Implantable cardioverter defibrillator • Laser lead extraction • Pacemaker and cardiac resynchronization therapy • WATCHMAN™ procedure

He was knowledgeable and had reviewed my medical records prior to my visit. He also seemed to care about my preference to any changes going forward to my care.
