Blood clots, also known as venous thromboembolism (VTE), affect as many as 900,000 people each year in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control. They occur either as deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.
In this segment of TriHealth’s Health Talk Live, Local 12’s Liz Bonis speaks with Neila, a patient who experience a pulmonary embolism as a result of a blood clot and was treated for the clot using a breakthrough technology called the Lighting 12 system, which is leading to a quicker and easier recovery for patients. Liz is also joined by Patrick Muck MD, a vascular surgeon with the TriHealth Heart & Vascular Institute, who explains how the new technology works and what sets it apart from existing aspiration treatment options for blood clots.
