Dan’s Story: Lifesaving Cardiac Care

Dan Doepke knew something didn’t feel quite right when he sat down after a recreational basketball game. What he didn’t know was that he had suffered a massive heart attack and that he would survive after collapsing to the floor only after several minutes of life-saving efforts through the use of CPR and an automated external defibrillator.

Dan was rushed to TriHealth Bethesda North Hospital where he was diagnosed under the treatment of Richard Callihan MD, a cardiologist with the TriHealth Heart Institute. He had significant coronary artery disease in three of his arteries and the next morning Cardiac Surgeon Kathryn O’Keefe MD performed a coronary artery bypass. Dan returned home after 11 days in Bethesda North’s Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit.

Watch the video to hear from Dan as he shares his experience including the seamless compassionate and expert care he received from the staff at Bethesda North Hospital and the TriHealth Heart Institute from the emergency department, to the cardiac cath lab, to cardiac surgery to recovery.
