Doctor on Call: Lifestyle Management of Blood Pressure

High blood pressure is one of the most common reasons for doctors’ office visits in the U.S. It can be a risk factor for different types of heart disease including heart failure, coronary artery disease, arrhythmia and stroke, so taking control of it is important. So what happens when a patient with high blood pressure has trouble controlling theirs in spite of medical treatment and reducing sodium intake? That’s the question submitted to this segment of TriHealth’s Doctor on Call by Brenda in Northside.

Internal Medicine Specialist Irina Gagua, MD, with TriHealth provides more insight on what constitutes high blood pressure and answers Brenda’s question including tips on lifestyle changes such as detailed recommendations on diet, exercise and managing stress. She also shares tips on monitoring your blood pressure at home and what questions to ask your doctor about medications.
