TriHealth On Call: Minimally-Invasive Treatment of Varicose Veins
Forty percent of all people suffer from varicose veins-the swollen, twisted, and enlarged veins that you can see under the skin, usually in the legs. They are caused by improperly-functioning one-way valves that allow blood to collect and force the veins to swell. Besides the cosmetic disadvantages, varicose veins can cause heaviness and aching in the legs and even be quite painful.
In the past, treatment of varicose veins meant a surgical incision, general anesthesia and spending much of the day at the hospital. Patrick Muck MD, Chief of Vascular Surgery at the TriHealth Heart Institute, shares how TriHealth uses state-of-the-art technology to offer quick, minimally-invasive treatment of varicose veins without surgery in this segment of TriHealth On Call.
