A thrombectomy, a procedure during which doctors remove blood clots using a device threaded through a blood vessel, can save the life or decrease the risk of disability for a person who suffers a large-vessel stroke. New emergency treatment guidelines recently released by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association mean more Americans may be able to receive the procedure to restore critical blood flow to the brain.
