Why Are Flu Vaccines Important?
The Flu: Why Children Are More Susceptible
According to this article in our Health Library, children are especially susceptible to catching and spreading the flu.
The virus is more common in children because they have a tendency to not wash their hands after using the restroom, and their immune systems are weaker.
The Flu Vaccine: Who Needs It?
While children are more at risk, Dr. Mazloomi says adults need the vaccine, too, especially because they often give the flu to kids who are too young to get vaccinated.
It takes about two weeks for the vaccine to build immunity, which is why it’s better to get it early. You can get the vaccine in the shot or, now, the nasal spray. “It’s better to be proactive than complain about it later – after you get the flu,” he tells Local 12’s Liz Bonis.
