Cancer and Blood Care

Diagnosis and Treatment Options

GI cancer is complicated. Our multidisciplinary nursing team will work with you throughout your journey. Your specific cancer and overall health will be reviewed by our tumor board. The tumor board is a team of specialists that cross all disciplines including genetics, oncology, nursing and collaborate to determine treatment options.

Your Oncology nurses are registered nurses who care for patients with cancer. They work as part of a multidisciplinary team, in a variety of settings, and with a variety of patients. While it is often said that nurses are the heart of health care, oncology nursing is a particularly challenging and rewarding field of nursing. The oncology nurse is with the cancer patient during their most difficult and intimate moments in life.

The team provides you with personal options for testing that include, but are not limited to:

When is the biopsy introduced?

A biopsy can be performed at any time during this process. If/when a mass is noted it is quickly tested to determine the course and treatment of your illness. As your treatment progresses, your nurse remains in close contact. The nursing team is able to help you to navigate the system and to make choices that work for you. Importantly, most patients see multiple experts and learn about options.
