Trigger Finger is another common condition. It can occur at any age. It is most common, however, in diabetics and mature individuals with arthritis.

The cause is the formation of a small nodule or lump on the flexor tendon in the palm of the hand at the base of the finger. As the lump grows, it begins to catch on a pulley system that holds the tendons in the finger in position. This produces tenderness or soreness, and, soon enough, becomes a catching or triggering sensation when the finger is straightened. It may cause a complete locking of the finger in the palm so that the finger must be manually straightened.

In about 75% of the cases, however, patients quickly recover with one or two cortisone injections. When surgery is required, it is done under local anesthesia.

Our physicians treat Trigger Finger more than any other condition. They have long experience in providing injections in the right location or surgical release as quickly as possible.
