Middle-aged individuals frequently sustain fractures of the wrist as the result of a fall. The bone may sustain a single crack that is minimally displaced, or it might shatter into multiple pieces. Successful recovery requires that the bone pieces heal in an acceptable position and that the wrist and fingers be appropriately rehabilitated to maximize strength and motion.

Wrist Fracture Treatments

Many techniques are available for treating wrist fractures. They range from something as simple as pushing the fracture back into position and holding it in a cast to using pins to hold the bone fragments in proper position.

Occasionally, surgery is required to reposition the bone fragments and hold them in place with plates and screws. This requires significant training, experience and expertise. All of our physicians at Hand Surgery Specialists are experts at treating wrist fractures.
