Cancer and Blood Care

Our Multidisciplinary Approach

From gastroenterologists and medical oncologists to genetic counselors and nurse navigators, we have a highly specialized team of physicians and staff working together to ensure our patients get the best care possible. Our multidisciplinary nursing team will work with you throughout your journey. Your specific cancer and overall health will be reviewed by our tumor board. The tumor board is a team of specialists that cross all disciplines including genetics, oncology, nursing and collaborate to determine treatment options.

Your Oncology nurses are registered nurses who care for patients with cancer. They work as part of a multidisciplinary team, in a variety of settings, and with a variety of patients. While it is often said that nurses are the heart of health care, oncology nursing is a particularly challenging and rewarding field of nursing. The oncology nurse is with the cancer patient during their most difficult and intimate moments in life. From offering robotic and laparoscopic surgery to using the most current machines available to deliver precise, targeted radiation, we're staying ahead of the curve. Our Program also features newly remodeled facilities, like our state-of-the-art infusion center at Good Samaritan Hospital, offering a comfortable, healing environment for our patients.

Our Gastrointestinal Cancer Program has a team of physicians and staff working together to ensure that each patient receives the highest quality of care possible. Specialists include:

GI Cancer Program: Our Experience

Through our GI Cancer Program, we've been caring for cancer patients in the Cincinnati area for more than 30 years. Our experience continues to grow as we add highly trained specialists to our diverse team of experts. This allows us to stay current with the most up-to-date, effective medical treatments.

We Take a Multidisciplinary Approach to Care

At the GI Cancer Program, we believe effective communication and coordinated care are essential to the treatment plan. Through our multidisciplinary team approach, we:

  • Communicate daily and formally meet on a weekly basis at our Multidisciplinary GI Tumor Board Conference, where we discuss each individual patient to map out the optimum treatment strategy.
  • Use multidisciplinary clinics so a variety of specialists can see the patient during a single visit to reduce the number of office visits for the patient.
  • Designate a GI cancer-specific nurse navigator to each patient. The navigator serves as the point person who helps guide the patient through every phase of care.

After the patient has finished treatment, our care doesn’t end. We continue to follow our patients long-term through our survivorship program.
