Preterm birth is a birth that takes place before the start of the 37th week of pregnancy.
There are a number of risk factors that can contribute to preterm birth, and while some cannot be changed, there are certain risk factors that are modifiable, including:
Michael Marcotte MD, of Tri-State Maternal-Fetal Medicine Associates, recommends that if you have risk factors for preterm birth, schedule a visit with an OB specialist before pregnancy, or at least in the first trimester of pregnancy, to discuss options for preventative management.
