10 Color Run Tips

10 Color Run Tips
July 10, 2015

First time participating in a Color Run? Here are some tips on how to get ready, and what you can expect.

Tip #1. Get Excited!

This is a FUN event. You will be around a lot of people dancing, strangers throwing color and shine powder at you, loud music and other shenanigans. Although it's a 5K, it's a run, not a race. If you want to walk, walk.

Tip #2. Take a Before and After Picture

It's fun to see the difference.

Tip #3. Cover Your Camera/Phone

Volunteers throw colored starch at you as you run through each station. To protect your gear, bring a disposable waterproof camera or put your phone/camera in a plastic bag and make sure it is closed.

Tip #4. Close Your Mouth When Running Through The Color Zones

The color powder, although pretty, does not taste like it looks. However, the powder is non-toxic and free of any heavy metals.

Tip #5. Wear Sunglasses

Before you bring out the expensive pair of shades, look out for TriHealth sunglasses. It will shield the color powder from getting in your eyes significantly.

Tip #6. Wear Sunscreen

Imagine showering with a sunburn, now imagine the feeling of a sunburn while vigorously scrubbing color powder off your skin.

Tip #7. Take the Free Water

Remember to stay hydrated, especially if it is hot out. If no other reason, you can rinse the color out of your mouth.

Tip #8. Find a Cleaning Station After the Race

It will help take some of the excess color off, but not all of it.

Tip #9. Bring Baby Wipes, Tissues and a Towel

You will get color EVERYWHERE! Be sure to pack some baby wipes, tissues and a towel large enough to cover the seat in your car.
