Watch Dr. Shetty share her story and discuss the importance or preventive and primary care
What are some of the benefits of staying proactive in your primary care with regular annual checkups? Check in with TriHealth physician Dr. Roshni Shetty (pictured right) below and find out!
Dr. Roshni Shetty became interested in medicine from a young age, mainly due to the influence of her father, a physician on the West Side.
“I decided on primary care because I like long term relationships with patients,” says Dr. Shetty about her start in medicine. “I enjoy preventative care… I enjoy keeping people healthy.”
Dr. Shetty speaks in depth about why it’s so important to keep up with regular visits with a primary care physician, promoting early detections, interventions and treatments to avoid worsening conditions.
“We check patients’ blood pressure on an annual visit, we can catch hypertension, we check bloodwork and can catch pre-diabetes or diabetes, we do cancer screenings,” says Dr. Shetty before listing off several more areas of coverage. “We do preventative care, we advise on basic vaccinations, we screen for cholesterol—we can intervene before patients have heart disease or strokes.”
Dr. Shetty always tries to keep the mindset of her patients at the forefront of her care, something she says is commonplace among TriHealth Primary Care.
“It’s important to patients to be able to access care quickly, but they also want to find a physician they can match with,” she says. “And with TriHealth, we have a physician finder service on our website where you can watch videos so you can see videos and read about physicians and find somebody who you feel speaks to you.”
Dr. Shetty is also very optimistic about the collaboration possible within the TriHealth system, as she has access to some of the best specialists in the area to refer to for all manners of specialized care.
“I can start the care in my office and transfer the patient to the specialist,” she says of the referral process. “The specialist then gives me feedback on the patient, and when the patient is stable they’re back in our offices. If I need to make an adjustment, I can reach out to the specialist and our mutual patient can get the best care possible.”
Beyond just the opportunity for collaboration, Dr. Shetty also appreciates what she considers a very patient-centered approach to care when it comes to TriHealth Primary Care from more practical perspectives as well, such as convenience.
“We have a large network, which allows patients to be seen near where they work and live,” she points out, referring to the ambitious goal to have a primary care location within fifteen minutes of every patient in the Greater Cincinnati Area that TriHealth is continuing to strive toward.
Beyond traditional health-related concerns, Dr. Shetty mentions TriHealth’s ongoing effort to address root causes of ongoing medical concerns that often reach beyond physical symptoms.
“TriHealth is really focusing on health disparities because it affects the community as a whole—if some of our members are suffering, that affects the health care for all,” she says. The steps taken by TriHealth have impressed her so far.
“Addressing social issues, addressing food inequities, addressing transportation difficulties… helps all of us,” she says of this holistic approach. “We also have Behavioral Health in our offices, which has been a great need—so now, we’re able to refer them within our offices.”
Dr. Shetty believes the teams at TriHealth Primary Care offices are some of the best medical professionals you’ll find in the region, truly caring for the patients they see.
“I feel fortunate to have such a wonderful job and work with wonderful people.”
