In June, Mary Korengel, RN, will celebrate a milestone anniversary of 40 years of service with TriHealth.

Mary graduated from the Bethesda School of Nursing and began her career as a nurse with Hospice of Cincinnati, where she spent 25 years working in hospice and palliative care.

“I had been there so long and loved it, but it was time for a change,” says Mary, “I wanted to stay with TriHealth, and I knew there were plenty of options within TriHealth.”

Mary found a new role with Presurgical Services at Bethesda North Hospital, where she was able to expand her nursing experience in an area completely different to her previous roles.

“It’s been fun again learning new parts of healthcare in a whole different specialty,” says Mary, “I’m now working with a lot of the staff I used to work with when I first started or have met over the years, so it’s great to come back to the people that I started here at TriHealth with.”

Over her 40 years of service at TriHealth, Mary has appreciated the flexibility and support that TriHealth offers to nurses, including education assistance, a variety of work schedules, committee involvement and clinical ladder for career growth. 

When reflecting on her upcoming milestone anniversary, Mary offers some advice for nurses just beginning their careers. “For new nurses just starting at TriHealth, there’s so many things that you can do in addition to just the job that you have to be involved,” says Mary. “Healthcare changes all the time. It never stays the same and every day is a new day. It keeps it exciting!”
