Mike Kubicki Changes up his Routine, Gets Stronger

Mike Kubicki Changes up his Routine, Gets Stronger
September 09, 2014

Amelia Kubicki bought her husband Mike a membership to the TriHealth Fitness & Health Pavilion for Christmas 10 years ago, but it took about a year before he really started using it.

"I started slow, coming one time a week or so, but that really didn't do much. When I started my own commercial real estate business, I was able to set my own work hours and made time to work out more frequently," says Mike. "That's when I began noticing a difference."

While Mike was steadily visiting the Pavilion about 4-5 times a week, he felt like his routine needed a change-up. But when the fitness staff encouraged Mike to take group fitness classes, he hedged. "I thought I needed to get in shape before taking a class. Eventually, I got over that and started taking a Spinning class."

Mike then moved on to try Boot Camp with Andrea.  He recalls, "We had to start the class by running half of a mile, and it was all I could do to finish the run. Now, I can easily go that distance. In fact, I even ran a 5k with my wife and daughter. It’s made a huge difference."

While Mike was in Boot Camp, he began jesting with staff member Marshall Bell who was taking TRX classes that "Marshall was in an easy class."  So, Marshall invited him to try TRX.

"I got a great workout," Mike notes. "TRX definitely worked muscles I hadn't engaged in a while. It's a great class."

Since becoming a member, Mike has lost 25 pounds and has his sights set on losing 10 more.  "Overall I feel better. I used to get winded just taking my dogs for a walk."

In addition to making physical gains, Mike says he has made a lot of good friends at the Pavilion and he also appreciates the staff. "People notice when I miss a class; the peer pressure to show up and give your best really helps to motivate me," says Mike.

If there is one thing others can take away from Mike's story, he hopes it is this: "Get in here and get out of your comfort zone. Start taking classes. Change up your routine."
