As the health system that delivers the most babies in the Cincinnati region, TriHealth, Cincinnati’s nationally recognized health care system, is proud to offer high-quality obstetrical care and services to all birthing individuals.
For over a decade, TriHealth has worked together with bi3 Fund and Cradle Cincinnati to connect with community voices in the women’s health care space in efforts to reduce the maternal and infant mortality rate in Hamilton and Butler counties. Through this unique partnership, TriHealth has benefited from hearing from thousands of women about what they need to have a safe and enjoyable birthing experience. Over the past 24 months, in collaboration with the birthing hospital equity certification program developed by Cradle Cincinnati called Mama Certified and other community groups, TriHealth has met with mothers to discuss those needs in detail. From those discussions, the overwhelming request was that TriHealth be more welcoming of doulas in our care spaces so that patients could have an advocate and knowledgeable support person by their side during pregnancy and delivery. We know that making the choice to deliver at TriHealth includes more than considering our highly-trained clinical staff and state-of-the-art care settings. Our patients’ physical, emotional, and spiritual experiences throughout the perinatal journey are equally important, and continuing to create safe spaces to nurture those experiences is a priority at TriHealth.
Today, in partnership with bi3 Fund and Cradle Cincinnati, TriHealth announces the launch of Doula Friendly Guidelines that build upon our 160-year history of providing high-quality obstetrical care in the Cincinnati region.
Our new Doula Friendly Guidelines fully engage doulas in TriHealth care settings because we recognize the many benefits of a doula-supported pregnancy and birth, and we respect our patients’ choice to include a doula in their maternity care plan. Under these guidelines, TriHealth providers and staff will work together as a team with doulas to help patients have the safest birth and best experience possible. TriHealth does not employ or contract with doulas or doula agencies, so our patients are free to choose a doula that is the best fit for their individual needs.
