Wafa Akkad, MD only had to look to her family for role models, with many of them pursuing medical careers. This early and strong exposure to medicine formed her determination to become a doctor. Her own strong family values led her to choose family medicine as a specialty. Over the past six years, at a family medicine practice in South Dakota, she has found helping her patients live better to be very rewarding.
Dr. Akkad sees patients of all ages, from birth through geriatrics, for both prevention and treatment of acute and chronic medical conditions. She also specializes in well woman exams, birth control, and performs minor surgical procedures in office. She believes in building strong, long-term relationships with her patients. She listens carefully to build mutual trust. Dr. Akkad encourages her patient to take an active part in making decisions concerning their health. She advocates healthy lifestyle choices and early detection measures.
Married with three daughters, Dr. Akkad loves cooking and travel. She also likes volunteering and organizing social events in her community.
