Who We Are

The Good Samaritan Free Health Center (FHC), which opened in January 2011, has helped thousands of uninsured, non-Medicaid/Medicare-eligible adults find a medical home where they are able to receive regular primary healthcare. Volunteers are the primary providers of care, which includes specialties, dental, and behavioral healthcare.

Our goal is to provide uninsured adults in Hamilton County, who are disproportionately at risk for chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension, with the medical care they need to enjoy a higher quality of life.

What began as a two-day-a-week volunteer effort quickly became a lifeline. Today, it is the largest urban free health center in Ohio by volume and the only one in Southwest Ohio open six days a week, providing more than 9,000 visits and serving more than 1,450 uninsured adults annually.

The FHC approach is unique. Of more than 1,400 free health centers nationwide, only about 15 percent offer dental, mental health, and nutrition services together. In Ohio, the FHC is one of only two with this combination. These services form the foundation of health: oral health affects physical health, mental health shapes stability, and nutrition drives healing.

The FHC also earned a 2026 Gold rating from the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC) Quality Standards Program. Only a third of America’s free health centers are gold-rated by the NAFC.

Compassion Meets Care

Tony was concerned about a lump he found on his neck, but without insurance, he had nowhere to turn. The Free Health Center stepped in, providing a cancer diagnosis and life-saving care. Today, he is healthy and grateful—proof that compassionate, donor-funded care saves lives. “If I hadn’t come here, I don’t know where I’d be. I don’t think I’d be here at all.”

How We Work

Located in Price Hill, the FHC closes devastating gaps in access by offering comprehensive, personalized care. Volunteers annually contribute more than 5,000 hours, and more than 130 physicians, nurses, and health professionals support a small staff in delivering an exceptional range of services.

The Free Health Center is 100% philanthropically funded, depending on generous individuals who donate financial resources. Since its inception, a total of $40M has been invested into the community.. All philanthropy is coordinated through Good Samaritan Foundation.
