The Good Samaritan College of Nursing and Health Science (GSC) is offering a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) starting in the 2012-2013 academic year.  The program is designed specifically for adult learners, with a combination of guided independent study, peer-learning, and faculty-facilitated on-site learning. This is the first four year program to be offered by the college.

“The 2+2 approach allows current RNs to advance their careers, strengthen their professional identity, and demonstrate their commitment to lifelong learning.”

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing, developed as a 2+2 program, is designed for registered nurses who wish to complete the necessary upper division nursing courses and additional general education requirements to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing.  The curriculum includes two practicum experiences and culminates with a capstone project.  A four‐year track is available for students wanting to enter the nursing profession.   Students in the four-year track first complete the college’s two‐year associate degree program in nursing, and then the upper division BSN coursework.

“We take a multi-disciplinary approach at GSC, integrating leadership, technology, and current theory to provide comprehensive, high quality, patient-centered care,” said Morris Cohen, President of GSC.  “The 2+2 approach allows current RNs to advance their careers, strengthen their professional identity, and demonstrate their commitment to lifelong learning.”

RNs who graduated from GSC since 1992, and who meet the BSN admission requirements, can smoothly transition into the BSN program; the application and matriculation fees are waived for all GSC alumni.  All RNs who enter the BSN program, including graduates from other nursing programs, are awarded 36 credits for their lower division nursing coursework.

The BSN is being offered for both full-time and part-time students, with 48 credit hours past the associate degree needed to complete the program. Admission requires a 2.5 GPA for post-secondary coursework and current licensure as an RN.

GSC is also offering an Associate of Science in Health Science (ASHS) beginning this fall. The ASHS is a comprehensive program of study designed to satisfy entry-level eligibility requirements for a variety of health care professional programs. The GSC ASHS program provides a wide variety of general education courses, and focuses on the successful completion of a health science curriculum.

GSC is located inside of TriHealth’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Clifton, which has sponsored a nursing program since 1896. GSC currently has 320 students enrolled. To find out more information or apply online, visit gscollege.edu.
