TriHealth Injury Prevention, sponsor of Hamilton County Safe Communities (HCSC), and the Hamilton County OVI task force mixed up sober ways to celebrate at the tenth annual Mocktail event on Wednesday, March 14th, at Bethesda North Hospital.
The Mocktail event raised awareness about the impact of drunk driving in our communities. Drunk driving is one of Ohio's deadliest crimes with 401 OVI-related fatalities in Ohio last year, according to the Hamilton County OVI task force. The number of OVI-related fatalities has been steadily declining since 2007 due to increased awareness efforts by law enforcement and community organizations.
"Drunk driving puts lives at risk and is much more expensive than a cab ride once you add up the costs related to: damages, insurance, medical costs, attorney fees and time away from work; plan a safe way home before the festivities start," said Blue Ash Police Lieutenant Steve Schueler. "Having a designated driver saves lives and is a much better option than serving jail time and losing your license." Schueler is coordinator of the Hamilton County OVI Task Force.
Community organizaitons and hospital departmetns created fun and interactive displays, centering around a creative non-alcoholic drink option. The event is open to the public, and free samples are available.
