TriHealth Announces $4.3 Million Investment to Accelerate Health Equity

bi3 grant builds upon efforts within TriHealth's system

TriHealth, a leading Cincinnati-based integrated health system, announced it will dedicate $4.3 million to support the creation of a Center for Health Equity to advance the health status of TriHealth patients and the Greater Cincinnati community. Funding comes from bi3, a grants initiative to transform health and strategic partner of TriHealth.

"TriHealth is accelerating our efforts to proactively address health disparities and achieve greater health equity throughout our community. This work is central to our Mission to serve the health needs of our entire community and our long-term vision and strategy of getting healthcare right by delivering on the Triple Aim of better care, better health and better value for everyone," said Mark C. Clement, President and CEO of TriHealth. "And to do that, as an industry, we need to more consistently deliver the right care in the right way at the right time to produce the right clinical outcomes at the right cost. Addressing health disparities is all about delivering the right care at the right time and we are grateful that bi3 is supporting this vital work through this generous grant."

The funding will support TriHealth in launching a widescale, strategic approach to health equity, starting with the creation of a new Center for Health Equity. The Center consists of a TriHealth team that will deploy targeted initiatives to address community-wide social determinants of health and health status while focusing on health and process of care disparities within its patient population. The Center will:

  • Partner with TriHealth's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) team to continue to build a culture of inclusion and belonging—one which fosters trust and confidence
  • Leverage new analytics and existing resources to foster more equitable care for patients
  • Implement a Health Equity Roadmap prioritizing interventions in maternal/infant, chronic disease and behavioral health
  • Develop, implement, and regularly evaluate equitable care models that can be replicated and scaled across our system and other health conditions
  • Build community-based partnerships with other regional health systems, public health organizations, social services and more to address the social determinants of health that are influencing health outcomes

This new grant builds on the $4.5 million grant bi3 awarded last year to reduce health disparities and accelerate health equity and belonging at TriHealth. To date, bi3 has awarded more than $18 million to accelerate health equity at TriHealth, including investments in the School to Work program, the TriHealth OB/Gyn Center and Hospice of Cincinnati.

"bi3 is leading the way to a time when every person has a fair and just opportunity to achieve their best health," said Jill Miller, president & CEO of bi3. "Through this initiative, TriHealth is uniquely evolving care models and strengthening its culture and systems to better support all patients, resulting in better health outcomes for everyone in our community."
