TriHealth, the integrated health system that formed in 1995 as a partnership between Bethesda and Good Samaritan Hospital, has announced the creation of two new institutes for specialized, patient-centered care: the TriHealth Heart Institute and the TriHealth Cancer Institute.

The TriHealth Heart Institute will address all aspects of cardiac, vascular and thoracic conditions and their related chronic diseases. The TriHealth Cancer Institute will focus on the diagnosis and treatment of cancer using a multidisciplinary team approach.

“What is unique about these new institutes is that they epitomize the “tri” in TriHealth – physicians, hospitals and community resources – all aligning to develop superior integrated patient-centered care programs,” said John Prout, president and CEO for TriHealth, Bethesda North Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital. “These new institutes leverage our regional leadership in aligning physicians – employed and independent, primary care and specialists – to develop a shared focus on excellence for each patient and the community as whole.”

From outcomes, to prudent management of resources, to caring and compassionate service, TriHealth operates in an environment of continuous quality improvement across its more than 70 facilities. As the landscape of health care continues to evolve both nationally and locally, TriHealth is prepared to respond to the demand for more coordinated, patient-centered models of care with strong physician collaboration and leadership. The new institutes wield the power of the full TriHealth system, which has been named among the country’s Top 100 Most Integrated Health Networks 13 times.

The goal of the TriHealth Institute model of care is to further the charitable mission of the organization by improving the health status of the communities it serves. With the launch of the TriHealth Institute model, TriHealth is initially focused on cancer and heart diseases, which present significant opportunities to impact patient care experiences and the overall health of Greater Cincinnati. Additional Institutes focused on other diseases will be developed in response to the needs of the community.

The TriHealth Heart Institute represents one unified program of comprehensive cardiac services available at multiple locations: Bethesda North Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital and locations throughout Cincinnati. TriHealth has long been nationally regarded as a premier provider of heart services, and Bethesda North and Good Samaritan hospitals are known for bringing the latest and greatest heart treatment options to the Tri-State, such as cryoablation for atrial fibrillation and robotic-assisted surgery for a variety of complex heart procedures, and the TriHealth heart team has grown even stronger with the recent employment of heart specialists from the Cardiology Center of Cincinnati, effective July 1, 2011. The TriHealth Heart Institute offers a network of top employed and independent medical specialists working together to providing advanced, specialized treatment of cardiovascular disease in a warm, comfortable and caring environment.

Similarly, the TriHealth Cancer Institute is committed to providing the best and most current treatment options for a variety of cancers through a top network employed and independent cancer specialists including the recently employed physicians from the Oncology Partners Network, along with independent physician colleagues, focused on improving cancer care. Research is continually providing newer, better ways of treating cancer that allow more people to earn the title “cancer survivor,” and the TriHealth Cancer Institute has developed a collaborative powerhouse that combines the latest technology, state-of-the-art care and physician expertise.

With current and future Institutes, TriHealth’s structure will allow physicians, patients and families to have integrated care experiences with access to an array of specialists to treat disease. The Heart and Cancer Institutes are just the beginning. TriHealth will continue to align with physician specialists to create other institutes in response to the needs of the Greater Cincinnati region.

TriHealth heart and vascular programs have received 16 national awards for clinical excellence in the past decade. TriHealth’s cancer programs have merited accreditation by the American College of Surgeons for more than 20 years, and in 2010, the Mary Jo Cropper Family Center for Breast Care at Bethesda North became the first and only breast center in the region to be accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. The Cropper Family Center for Breast Care also has been named a Breast Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.
