TriHealth Awarded ASCP Grant to Advance Metastatic Colorectal Cancer Care

TriHealth, Cincinnati’s nationally recognized healthcare group, is pleased to announce it has been awarded funding to improve patient access to colorectal cancer care by the American Society for Clinical Pathology.

The ASCP, in collaboration with Pfizer and the American Society of Clinical Oncology awarded TriHealth $186,887 that will fund an 18-month project pertaining to Quality improvement in Molecular Testing Pathways for Metastatic Colorectal Cancer (mCRC). The grant will fund an FTE in laboratory who can support precision oncology orders and implementation of the Performance and Diagnostics insights platform that will provide insights to care gaps and best practices.

This grant is part of a multi-year initiative launched through an RFP announced by ASCP earlier this year. The program is focused on addressing persistent gaps in molecular testing, communication, care coordination, and biomarker-driven treatment decision-making for patients with mCRC.

With more than 150,000 new colorectal cancer cases diagnosed annually in the U.S., mCRC remains an area of significant unmet medical need. TriHealth will utilize the grant to bring together pathologists, lab professionals, oncologists, surgeons, and other members of the cancer care team to identify barriers to care, optimize workflows, and improve coordination across the continuum of care.

The grant recognizes TriHealth’s leadership in precision medicine and will help strengthen cancer care across the health system by supporting tools, data insights, and care processes that identify gaps in molecular testing and improve adherence to national guidelines. For patients with advanced colorectal cancer, this work is designed to help ensure they receive the right biomarker testing at the right time, so treatment decisions can be informed by the biology of their cancer rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
