Catrina Crisp, MD received the Society for Gynecologic Surgeon's President's Award - First Prize Paper at the Annual Meeting in Baltimore. Dr. Crisp's study was Postoperative Analgesia in Patients Undergoing Vaginal Reconstructive Surgery: A Randomized Trial Comparing Patient-Controlled and Scheduled, Nurse-administered Intravenous Hydromorphone. The study’s co-authors were Sindura Bandi, DO, Susan Oakley, MD, Maria Victoria Estanol, MD, Angela N Fellner, PhD, Steven Kleeman, MD, Rachel N Pauls MD.  The award is the highest honor that the society bestows and is recognized once per year at this gathering.

The research evaluated postoperative pain medication using two different regimens of delivery in order to determine which led to better control of patient pain and better satisfaction with pain control.  While both methods are routinely used it is unclear whether one route is superior.  The two compared were patient controlled pain medicine using the pain button/pump (PCA) versus intravenous medication given by a shot in the IV by the nurse at scheduled intervals.

This information is new to the body of knowledge and will help care for patients in the future.  Dr. Crisp designed and completed the study with the help of her coauthors.  The study was selected for presentation at the meeting and given the award following the presentation.

The prestigious award, acknowledging outstanding research in gynecologic surgery, is given to only one paper per year.  The research is scheduled to be published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology - a leading journal for Ob/Gyn physicians.  The research was conducted through the Hatton Research Institute at TriHealth hospitals.

Dr. Crisp recently joined TriHealth Physician Partner Cincinnati Urogynecology Associates. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology and served as Chief Resident and vice president of the House Staff Council, at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.  Dr. Crisp received the Dennis Barber Academic Award for pursuits of academic excellence and was twice nominated for the Arnold Gold Humanism and excellence in teaching award as a resident. She completed fellowship training in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at TriHealth’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati.

She is seeing new patients at her Bethesda Arrow Springs and West Chester office and lives with her husband and daughter in Mason.
