TriHealth Upgrading Women’s Services at Good Samaritan Hospital; All Private Rooms Now Available for Maternity Patients

More babies are born at TriHealth’s Good Samaritan Hospital than any other hospital in Southwest Ohio. Now, their moms and dads and families will have new, private rooms and other amenities when they welcome their babies into the world.

Work is now underway to build state-of-the-art maternity facilities that match the national clinical reputation of Good Samaritan. Among other programs, Good Samaritan is known for its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the largest Level III NICU in the region dedicated to caring for newborns in greatest need of highly specialized and critical care. The NICU has been serving patients for more than half a century.

Second Phase of Renovation Now Complete

Phase one of the project was completed last year when all post-partum rooms were converted to private rooms. Phase two has now been completed with all private rooms in the TriHealth Advanced Obstetrical Care Unit. This area is reserved for all high-risk maternity patients who require longer stays during pregnancy.

“These renovations encompass the entire spectrum of care for obstetric patients, from pre-labor through delivery and into post-partum,” said Kristin Coppage, MD, Site Director for Women’s Services. “The breadth of infrastructure being built to support the needs of our pregnant moms-to-be is unmatched in the region.”

Once complete, the project will include a new maternity gateway through the hospital’s Dixmyth entrance. This offers more direct access to a new, larger maternity greeting area and a new triage area where patients will come for initial assessment. Once admitted, patients will be registered at their bedside. Around the clock valet parking also will be available to patients. 

“From mid-wife attended natural births to high-risk, complicated deliveries, we are proud of the state-of-the-art care we provide,” said Jamie Easterling, Executive Director of Hospital Operations at Good Samaritan Hospital.  “The new, welcoming environment with all private rooms provides the comfort and care that our maternity patients want at this very special time in their lives.”

Critical Care Facilities Being Added

The final phase of the project will include renovation in the Labor and Delivery facilities. Two new critical care labor and delivery rooms will be added to provide state-of-the-art care for highest-risk deliveries.

“Every day we strive to make sure that we’re meeting the needs of our obstetric patients,” said Dr. Coppage. “We have had all the medical and clinical capabilities to help ensure the best possible patient outcomes, whether low or high risk. Now, we’ll have maternity facilities that meet the same high standards and provide an even better patient experience.”

GBBN Architects completed the architectural drawing and design for the project.

Construction is expected to be finished in February 2018.
