ACLS Training in Action: One Class – One Life Saved
August 04, 2025

When Lisa Ackermann, an RN from North Same Day Surgery with 14 years of experience, signed up for her ACLS Initial Provider course, she expected a standard class with the instructors checking off their to-do lists. What she received instead was a deeply impactful learning experience—one that would soon help her save a life.

In a heartfelt message, Lisa described the ACLS course as “the best education class I have ever had,” praising the instructors for their thoroughness, passion, and commitment to ensuring every participant truly understood the material. “Thank you for investing in us and taking it so seriously,” she wrote. “You made a difference!”.

That difference became clear just days later.

While walking with her 17-year-old daughter, Lisa witnessed a neighbor collapse. He was unconscious, without a pulse, and showing signs of respiratory distress. Lisa immediately began chest compressions while her daughter called 911 and relayed critical information. Within moments, the man began to respond. Lisa continued her assessment, recognized signs of a stroke, and provided EMS with a precise timeline—actions that may have saved his life.

Lisa credits her ability to act swiftly and confidently to the ACLS training she received at TriHealth. “If you hadn’t taken your teaching seriously and had just done it to mark it off of a list, that man may not have gotten a second chance,” she wrote.

Lisa attended the July 16 & 17 ACLS Initial Provider class, led by Janet Campbell, ACLS/PALS Program Coordinator. The class was supported by a team of expert instructors: Brad Baker, Cheryl Dorschug, Rob Kerr, Debbie Lantman, and Kevin Mullins. Their dedication and expertise created a learning environment that was not only educational but truly life-changing.

At the core of this impactful program is Janet Campbell, whose dedication ensures that every class is more than just a certification—it’s a preparation for real-world emergencies. Her unwavering commitment and attention to detail set the tone for a team of instructors who are passionate about delivering high-quality, engaging, and practical instruction ensuring that participants leave prepared to respond when it matters most.

The TriHealth ACLS Program builds on the foundation of lifesaving Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR. The curriculum reflects science and education from the American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC). As an official AHA Training Center, TriHealth upholds rigorous standards in its ACLS offerings. Please note: prerequisites are required to enroll in ACLS classes, in accordance with AHA guidelines.

To Janet and the entire ACLS instructor team: thank you for making a difference. Your work doesn’t just teach skills—it saves lives.
