McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital

History

Since McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital opened its doors in 1957, it has met the need for quality health care in southwestern Ohio and southeastern Indiana. While remaining in the forefront of advanced technology, we maintain an atmosphere of friendly, personal and individualized patient care.

You and your neighbors have access to our exceptional facility because of the dreams of two families. The hope for a hospital began with the joint bequests of sisters Daisy McCullough and Elizabeth McCullough-Heath. These remarkable women left in their wills a sizable amount of money to help establish a hospital for the Oxford community. They wanted a hospital that would be devoted to the "alleviation of human suffering, without distinction of race, color or creed, to be known as the McCullough Memorial Hospital."

Following the example of the McCullough sisters, the Hyde family of Indiana added to the hospital trust fund. When Kathryn and Benjamin Hyde died in 1951, Benjamin's will added more than $375,000 to the hospital fund in remembrance of friends in the surrounding area. Additional funds were added at the death of Benjamin's brother, Edward Hyde. The hospital's name was changed to McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital, as it is known today.

The McCullough-Hyde Auxiliary, formed in 1956 before the hospital opened, has contributed countless hours of service time and provided funding for numerous projects and equipment. Its commitment and support continues to be an important factor in our success. It is through the continued support of generous benefactors such as these that we have continued to grow, strengthen and develop into the hospital that serves you today.
