Andrew Shafik Islam, M.D. is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is an experienced surgeon, researcher and presenter, who is widely recognized by respected medical publications like Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Journal of Orthopedic Research and Journal of Cell Physiology.
Dr. Islam graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology from Case Western Reserve University. While earning his doctorate in medicine also from Case Western, he simultaneously completed a master’s degree in applied anatomy. During his residency, he spent a year researching molecular signaling mechanisms of orthopedic implant loosening. After his residency, he pursued a fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in orthopedic sports medicine, concentrating on shoulder, knee and elbow arthroscopy.
While pursuing a fellowship, Dr. Islam served as team physician for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and John Carroll University. He also provided team medical coverage at times for the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Cavaliers. These educational and patient-facing experiences created a strong foundation for his current practice.
Dr. Islam has proven time and time again that he offers specialized care for his patients. Whether local high school team members, weekend warriors or professional athletes, he diagnoses and treats them all with that all-important personalized care.
