Pharmacy Residency Programs at Bethesda North Hospital

Bethesda North Hospital is an acute, tertiary teaching hospital located in Cincinnati, Ohio and provides a wide range of services to individuals and families throughout the northeast corridor of Cincinnati.

Founded in 1970, Bethesda North (a 400-bed hospital) is now the fourth largest hospital in Greater Cincinnati, and is TriHealth’s Heart Hospital.

From award-winning heart care to maternity services and senior-focused ER rooms, We recently received the designation as a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care from Blue Cross Blue Shield. The Blue Distinction Centers designation signifies that our cardiac Program met nationally established Selection Criteria by demonstrating expertise in delivering quality specialty care, safely and effectively. Postgraduate Year One (PGY1)

The Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency Program conducted at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio is fully accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at Bethesda North, a TriHealth Hospital, is designed to provide 12 consecutive months of graduate professional education and training structured to meet the accreditation standards of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) by employing a systems-based approach to training design, delivery, and evaluation. This program delivers a sound academic and clinical education that is planned and balanced with concerns for patient safety and resident well-being. Specific experiences are designed to enable residents to improve their practice skills and meet ASHP and this residency program’s educational goals and outcomes.

PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2)

The Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Cardiology Pharmacy Residency Program conducted at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio is fully accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.
