Urogynecology

What is urogynecology?

Urogynecology is a subspecialty that blends gynecology and urology. It focuses on bladder problems and pelvic floor disorders, which affect the muscles in your pelvis.

Our board-certified urogynecologists have advanced training to accurately diagnose and treat urogynecology conditions. We work closely with other specialists, including urologists, to take a multidisciplinary approach to your care. We know every patient’s needs are unique. That’s why we take the time to talk with you about your condition and work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan.

You’ll have access to sophisticated testing and treatment options. We offer pelvic floor physical therapy and other nonsurgical treatments, as well as a wide-range of procedures and minimally invasive robotic surgery.

Symptoms and Conditions we Treat

Conditions that impact your bladder and pelvic muscles are common. One in three women will experience a urogynecology problem at some point in their lives.

At TriHealth, our urogynecology specialists treat all bladder and pelvic conditions, including:

When to Seek Care

Urogynecology problems may make it harder to take part in activities you enjoy and affect your quality of life. Seek care as soon as symptoms happen.

Make an appointment with us if you’re experiencing:

  • Heaviness, fullness or a bulge coming out of your vagina
  • Difficulty urinating or fully emptying your bladder
  • Frequent or urgent need to urinate
  • Urine leaks when you cough, exercise or laugh

When you come to TriHealth with urogynecologic health concerns, we prioritize making sure you feel seen and heard. As your health partner, we are here to help you understand and feel confident to take the next step. Together, we can create a treatment plan that fits your needs.

During your first appointment, we’ll discuss your symptoms and personal medical history. Our specialists may perform a pelvic exam. Depending on your symptoms, we may recommend additional testing.

Testing and Diagnosis

We offer a wide range of urogynecology tests to help us accurately diagnose your condition. Our specialists may recommend certain lab tests and imaging studies:

  • Cystoscopy – a procedure that uses a small camera to examine the inside of your bladder
  • Defecography – a real-time X-ray that reveals how your muscles move when you have a bowel movement
  • Pelvic exam – an exam that evaluates the inside and outside of your vagina and pelvic organs
  • Pelvic ultrasound – an imaging exam that helps us examine your vagina, bladder, kidneys, ovaries and uterus
  • Urine exam – a lab test that evaluates your urine for blood, bacteria or abnormal cells
  • Urodynamic testing – a series of tests to measure bladder function
