Travel Vaccines, Consultation Options and Additional Resources

Why should I have a travel vaccination consult when traveling internationally?

Traveling outside of the U.S. can be very exciting and expose you to great sites, new cultures, and new foods. It can also expose you to new illnesses. Approximately 2,000 cases of malaria are diagnosed in the U.S. each year with the majority associated with travel to countries with known malaria transmissions. (CDC.gov) Additionally, the recent pandemic was a reminder how quickly requirements for entry into countries may change. Several countries in Africa and South American require having a Yellow Fever vaccine in order to apply for a visa and upon entrance to the country. TriHealth wants to keep you safe when traveling outside of the U.S. Scheduling a travel consult can provide you the necessary measures to remain healthy while enjoying your international trip.

We recommend that you schedule your travel vaccine consultation approximately two months before your international trip departure date.

Pregnant, Immunosuppressed, or Post Travel Illness Evaluation

The following patients are recommended to schedule with an Infectious Disease Physician for their travel vaccine consultation:

  • Patients that are or will be pregnant during their trip
  • Patients that are immunosuppressed (active chemotherapy, history of transplant, HIV, patients receiving immunosuppressive drugs)
  • Post travel illness evaluation
