TriHealth Bethesda Addiction Recovery Center (is an Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program focused on empowering our patients to meet their individualized recovery goals holistically through a wide variety of clinical programming and experiences. We treat the whole person, not just the addiction. We view our patients as unique individuals and recognize that recovery goals and treatment approaches are not “one size fits all.”

With our rich history of best-in-class care since 1978, you can be assured that you or your loved one will receive the education, therapy, and treatment needed to embark on a successful recovery journey.

An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides structured addiction treatment while allowing you to live at home and continue working, going to school, or caring for family.

You attend therapy several days per week for a few hours each day. During that time, you will participate in group therapy, meet individually with a counselor, and learn practical tools to manage cravings, triggers, stress, and emotions.

IOP offers meaningful support without requiring you to stay overnight in a facility.

How do I know if I need IOP?

You may benefit from IOP if:

• You’ve tried to cut back or stop using but haven’t been able to
• Substance use is affecting your family, work, relationships, and/or health
• You’re worried about losing control
• You recently completed inpatient or residential treatment
• You want help before things get worse

If you’re unsure, that’s okay. A confidential assessment can help determine what level of care is safest and most appropriate for you.

Most patients attend IOP three (3) days per week for three (3) hours per session in a group format, with individual sessions throughout treatment. A typical week may include:

• Group therapy focused on coping skills and relapse prevention
• Individual counseling sessions
• Education about addiction and how it affects the brain
• Skills training (stress management, emotional regulation, communication, etc.)

We offer morning, afternoon, and evening options to accommodate work schedules.

No. Group therapy is one of the most powerful parts of treatment because you will be surrounded by others who understand and connect with what you’re going through.

Everyone in the group is there for the same reason - to get better. Sessions are led by licensed professionals who ensure a respectful, supportive environment.

Yes. IOP is specifically designed for people who need structured support but cannot step away from daily responsibilities. We offer morning, afternoon, and evening options to accommodate work schedules. Many patients continue working or attending school while in the program. If needed, we can provide documentation for employers or schools, such as FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act) paperwork.

Most people participate in IOP for ten (10) weeks, though the length depends on your individual progress and needs. Your treatment plan is regularly reviewed, and we will work together to determine when you’re ready to step down to a lower level of care.

If you’re experiencing physical dependence and may go through withdrawal, detoxification may be recommended before starting IOP. We can help coordinate a safe, medically supervised detox if needed. Once you’re medically stable, you can transition into IOP for continued support. If you are experiencing any emergency symptoms, please contact 911 or seek treatment at your nearest Emergency Department.

Yes. Many people struggling with substance abuse also experience anxiety, depression, PTSD, or other mental health concerns. Our program addresses both substance use and mental health together through internal and external resources and referrals. Treating both at the same time improves long-term recovery success. If you or someone else is experiencing a mental health emergency or is in crisis, call 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Department.

Absolutely! Your privacy is protected by federal and state confidentiality laws. We do not share your information without your written permission, except in rare safety situations required by law.

Seeking help will not automatically notify your employer, family, or anyone else.

Relapse does not mean failure and recovery is a process. If substance use happens during treatment, we address it openly and adjust your plan to increase support. Our focus is safety, accountability, and helping you move forward - not punishment or shame.

Before you complete IOP, we will help you build an aftercare plan. This may include:

• Coordinating a referral for individual therapy
• Recovery support groups (AA, NA, SMART Recovery, etc.)
• Continuing care groups
• Medication management (if applicable)

Recovery continues after IOP, and we help you prepare for that transition.

Most major insurance plans are accepted. Our intake team can verify your benefits quickly and explain any out-of-pocket costs before you commit to treatment. Our program also accepts Ohio Medicaid and Medicare.

If you have concerns about your ability to afford treatment, TriHealth offers financing options to meet your needs.

It is completely normal to feel nervous. When you call or submit a form:

1. You’ll speak with a caring admissions specialist.
2. We’ll ask a few basic questions about your situation.
3. We’ll schedule a confidential assessment.
4. We’ll review treatment recommendations and insurance coverage.

There is no pressure. The conversation is simply a starting point.

You don’t have to hit rock bottom to ask for help.

If substance use is causing problems - or if you’re worried it might - treatment can help you regain control before things escalate. Early intervention often leads to better outcomes.
