Having heart disease or a heart procedure does not mean the end of an active life. It does mean work on your part, though, to make your heart stronger and healthier. One of the best steps you can take to improve your recovery and aid in the prevention of heart problems is to enter the TriHealth Heart Institute’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.
Making Cincinnati Stronger and Healthier
Our Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is located in one of the foremost fitness centers in the area, the TriHealth Fitness & Health Pavilion. The Pavilion offers rehab participants a modern, state-of-the-art facility coupled with supervision from our highly skilled cardiac rehabilitation staff. You do not have to be a member of the Fitness Pavilion to participate in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.
Cardiac Rehabilitation: Phase I
To begin this program, your physician must write a referral. Before starting you may need to have a graded exercise test and blood lipid profile. These tests will help determine a safe level of exercise for you.
Your program will start with an orientation session. Then, you will come to our Heart Institute’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Department three times a week to exercise on a variety of stationary equipment. Low-level circuit weight-training for upper body strengthening is also available. The program can vary in length from four to 12 weeks. Although you exercise with a group, you are monitored under the guidelines established for your individual condition. Your heart will be monitored during every session.
Cardiac Rehabilitation: Phase II
This unique program can help you make a successful recovery by:
- Teaching you about heart disease, symptoms and treatment
- Making a plan to lower your risk factors related to heart disease
- Promoting safe and effective exercise
- Learning and practicing stress management techniques
Our cardiac rehab staff is trained to help people with heart disease reach and maintain the highest possible levels of physical and mental performance. Your team will include:
- Exercise physiologists
- Stress counselors
Throughout Phase Two of the program, your personal physician will be kept up to date through regular progress reports.
Cardiac Rehabilitation: Phase III
This ongoing program teaches you to monitor your exercise intensity and become confident with your own exercise patterns and lifestyles. In Phase Three, you will continue your self-monitored daily exercise program at home. Some Phase Three participants choose to continue their program at our rehabilitation department. These classes are supervised by experienced staff members, but require less frequent heart monitoring than Phase Two.
With professional guidance and your own commitment to making lifestyle changes, you can strengthen your heart and increase your odds for a longer, healthier life.
Cost and Insurance
Most insurance plans cover a majority of these services. Contact your employer or insurance representative to determine your insurance coverage.
