Rotations and Sites of Care

Most of the rotations will take place at TriHealth’s two flagship hospitals, Bethesda North Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital.

Bethesda North Hospital

Bethesda North Hospital serves as the primary clinical training site for the TriHealth Anesthesiology Residency Program. Located approximately 15 miles north of downtown Cincinnati in Montgomery, Ohio, Bethesda North is a full-service tertiary community medical center with approximately 360 adult inpatient beds and 60 newborn beds.

The hospital provides comprehensive surgical, medical, and diagnostic services and is recognized for the depth and breadth of its surgical programs. These include general surgery, orthopedic surgery, urology, vascular surgery, gynecologic surgery, thoracic surgery, cardiac surgery, and complex cardiovascular care. Bethesda North also supports a growing robotic-assisted surgery platform and maintains robust obstetrical services, including a Level II Special Care Nursery.

Bethesda North has been designated a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care by Blue Cross Blue Shield, reflecting its high-quality outcomes and advanced cardiovascular services. Anesthesiology residents gain exposure to complex cardiovascular and critical care anesthesiology through open and robotic cardiothoracic surgery, left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation, and the management of mechanical circulatory support devices.

The patient population at Bethesda North encompasses a wide range of medical complexity, allowing residents to develop proficiency in both routine and high-acuity anesthetic care within a high-functioning community hospital environment. This setting supports progressive responsibility, appropriate supervision, and preparation for independent anesthesiology practice.

Good Samaritan Hospital

Good Samaritan Hospital serves as a major clinical training site for the TriHealth Anesthesiology Residency Program. Located near downtown Cincinnati in the Clifton neighborhood, Good Samaritan Hospital is the oldest and largest private teaching hospital in Cincinnati and functions as a full-service academic medical center with approximately 460 adult inpatient beds and 130 newborn beds.

The hospital provides a broad range of advanced medical and surgical services, including general surgery, orthopedic surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, neurosurgery, trauma care as a Level II Trauma Center, and complex minimally invasive and robotic procedures. Good Samaritan also houses a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and maintains a nationally recognized labor and delivery program, with more than 7,000 deliveries annually. This volume and acuity provide anesthesiology residents with extensive exposure to obstetric anesthesia, including the management of high-risk maternal and neonatal patients.

Good Samaritan Hospital has earned Comprehensive Stroke Center designation from The Joint Commission—an honor achieved by only a small percentage of hospitals nationwide—reflecting excellence in complex neurologic and cerebrovascular care. Residents gain experience caring for patients with significant neurologic and medical comorbidities, further strengthening perioperative decision-making and anesthetic management skills.

The diverse and medically complex patient population at Good Samaritan complements training at Bethesda North, ensuring broad exposure to both emergent and elective anesthetic care. This combination of urban tertiary care and community-based practice environments supports graduated responsibility, appropriate supervision, and comprehensive preparation for independent anesthesiology practice.
